ANNOUNCES “KIDS WEEK” ACTIVITIES

Annual Week of Programming Provides Fun and Learning During Schools’ Winter Break


The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum presents its annual “Kids Week” from Saturday, February 14 – Sunday, February 22, 2009.  “Kids Week” offers a week full of fun and engaging educational programs while students are out of class during President’s Week.  “Kids Week” returns to the Intrepid this year for the first time in two years since the Intrepid was closed and undergoing extensive renovations.

Partnering with the Intrepid to provide programming during this year’s “Kids Week” are the New York Knicks, New York Liberty, New York Mets, New York Hall of Science, Ringling Brothers, Madame Tussauds New York, Rosie O’Donnell’s Rosie’s Broadway Kids and NASA.

This year’s special events include (schedule subject to change):

Saturday, February 14: Ringling Brothers Science in the Circus will have special performances at Noon and 2 p.m.  Madame Tussauds will display wax figures for students to pose with and face painting will be available.
Sunday, February 15:
Ringling Brothers Science in the Circus will have special performances and face painting will be available.
 
Monday, February 16: Mr. Met will be on hand to give away Mets prizes from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Puppetry Arts Theater will perform at Noon and 3 p.m. 
Tuesday, February 17: New York Hall of Science will provide interactive exhibits for the day. 
Wednesday, February 18: Intrepid’s Sports Day welcomes the Garden of Dreams Foundation, past and present players of the New York Knicks and Liberty and Knicks City Dancers for a special Black History Month program and interactive games.
Thursday, February 19: Special performance by Rosie O’Donnell’s Rosie’s Broadway Kids will perform and host workshops in the afternoon.
 
Friday, February 20: NASA interactive displays and quiz challenges will take place throughout the day. A former astronaut will speak at 2 p.m.
 
Saturday, February 21:
NASA interactive displays and quiz challenges will take place throughout the day.
 
Sunday, February 22:
NASA interactive displays and quiz challenges will take place throughout the day.

 
   
In addition the special events, education staff of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Education Department will lead interactive demonstrations, jeopardy games, and activities all related to flight, space, water and life at sea for families every day. Join us for hands-on fun discovering the properties of water, how Intrepid floats, how airplanes fly, what the crew did, how an aircraft carrier works, the parts of planes and more.

 “Kids Week” activities are free with the price of admission to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Tickets for the museum are available for purchase at www.intrepidmuseum.org.
