Fleet Week at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum kicks off on Wednesday, May 21, and runs through Tuesday, May 27, with activities, events, performances and more.
On Wednesday, visitors can relax on the Museum’s Pier 86 to watch as U.S. Navy ships and U.S. Coast Guard cutters arrive along the Hudson River. Fleet Week themed Tour Guide Talks will also begin that day at the Museum, running through Tuesday.
On Thursday, May 22, the Intrepid Museum’s 23rd Annual Salute to Freedom gala will honor GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel with the 2014 Intrepid Salute Award and the 2014 Intrepid Freedom Award, respectively.
And Friday, the Museum’s Pier 86 will start to fill up with activities, displays, demonstrations and more from our partners. The Office of Naval Research and U.S. Navy Energy & Environmental Programs will be on hand Friday through Monday, and the U.S. Coast Guard will have a Drill Team Demonstration on Friday and a Search and Rescue demonstration on Monday.
Other partners that will be at the Museum include the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps, the USS Intrepid Former Crewmember Association, Tin Can Sailors, American Legion 9-11 Memorial Post, American Red Cross, the Coca-Cola Rock Climbing Wall, Rock of Ages, the Manhattan Dolls and the USO Show Troupe.
On Monday, May 26, join the Intrepid Museum and honor our fallen patriots at the Memorial Day Ceremony on Pier 86 at 11:00am. The ceremony will include the unfurling of a 100-foot American flag, the laying of ceremonial wreaths, a three-volley rifle salute and the playing of Echo Taps.
