This October, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will celebrate Disability Awareness Month. In addition to year-round access programs and resources for visitors with special needs, the Intrepid Museum has once again developed specialized family activities, tours, and speaker events to raise awareness and better serve all visitors.
The month long event kicks off on October 1st with the workshop, “Creating Museum Programs and Resources for the Deaf Community,” a panel discussion on serving the Deaf Community through ASL programs and resources, co-presented by the Museum Access Consortium. Panelists will address the range and scope of projects within museum settings, representing ASL-interpreters, deaf educators, and program participants. ASL and voice interpretation will be provided.
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum hopes to raise awareness for bettering cultural experiences for all audiences. Disability Awareness Month aims bring together families, children, and adults with varying special needs, and advocates who are involved with creating and supporting opportunities for them.
