Experience the 70-year history of Intrepid with Intrepid Education. This school year, the Museum is proud to offer a variety of diverse educational programs for students in grades K-12.

Educators lead informative and entertaining tours tailored to the abilities and needs of each group. Explore the decks of this mighty aircraft carrier and its aircraft. Hear the past come alive and walk in the footsteps of history as you learn about the ins and outs of living in a “city at sea.”

Our audience-specific workshops cover a broad range of topics related to our main themes of Aviation, Marine Science, History, and Space Science – now with the newly reopened Space Shuttle Pavilion featuring space shuttle Enterprise!

Ever wondered what keeps an airplane in the sky? In Aviation workshops, middle and high school students perform their own hands-on experiments, testing the forces at work on an aircraft in flight. Conversely, why don’t big ships like Intrepid sink? In What Floats Your Boat, students design and build watercraft and test their ability to carry heavy loads. Ship ahoy!

How did Intrepid help win World War II? Learn about the women and men who labored to churn out the machines and supplies that made it all possible. Hear tales of life during the war, both at home and abroad in our History workshop.

Want to go out of this world? In Microgravity and You, an array of different experiments provides elementary school students with a sense of the daily life of an astronaut. Explore the universe without ever leaving the city. For middle and high school students, take a trip to the moon with Scale and the Space Race.

Look for all of this and more from the Education Department at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum.
