Aircraft Restoration Update

The summer was a very productive period for the aircraft restoration projects and the momentum carried us through the fall season. Special thanks to the dedicated volunteers who have donated many hours of their time to our endeavors.

Aircraft Restoration

Aircraft restoration has moved into full swing now that we are in Staten Island. Being able to work on the hangar deck has made the process much more comfortable and work is progressing faster than anticipated.

Friends of Hudson River Park and Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum invited summer day camps, community centers and recreation centers to participate in its 2007 Passport to the Hudson Summer Educational Program.

AIRCRAFT CARRIER INTREPID MAKES D-DAY “LANDING” ON STATEN ISLAND, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6TH

[June 6, 2007, Staten Island, NY] The aircraft carrier Intrepid today made a D-Day “landing” on Staten Island, Wednesday, June 6th, after being towed from a slip at Bayonne Dry Dock & Repair Corp.

Intrepid Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

[May 28, 2007, New York, NY] Though still “on leave,” The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum today held its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Central Park’s SummerStage. More than 2,000 veterans attended the public ceremony.

Intrepid Goes to Drydock

[April 10th, 2007, Bayonne, NJ] The fabled aircraft carrier Intrepid will move to dry dock at Bayonne Dry Dock & Repair Corp. on the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor to begin the next phase of her refurbishment.

Concorde Update

The British Airways Concorde, which has been a part of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and a major tourist attraction since 2003, will be moved to its temporary home at Aviator Sports and Recreation at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn on Friday, December 22, 2006.

Growler Update

At 12 noon on Thursday, December 14th the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Growler Submarine was tugged along the same 5-mile route taken by the Intrepid to Bayonne, NJ.

Intrepid Moves to Bayonne, NJ

The aircraft carrier Intrepid was successfully moved from Pier 86 to Bayonne, NJ. Intrepid proceeded past the Statue of Liberty, then unfurled its gigantic American flag as she passed historic Ground Zero shore point as a silent tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
