TIME SCIENCE EDITOR AND AUTHOR JEFFREY KLUGER
AND FORMER NASA ASTRONAUT MIKE MASSIMINO
AT THE INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM ON MAY 22
***
Join TIME science editor and author Jeffrey Kluger and former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino for a conversation and public Q&A about the space mission that brought the dream of walking the moon within reach on Monday, May 22 at the Intrepid Museum located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan. Doors open at 6:30pm and the talk will begin at 7:00pm.
Kluger’s new book, Apollo 8: The Thrilling Story of the First Mission to the Moon, tells the gripping story of Apollo 8, a harrowing mission that launched astronauts into lunar orbit, provided our first glimpse at the far side of the moon, and marked the first reentry into Earth’s atmosphere after a flight into deep space. Apollo 8, the second human spaceflight mission the United States attempted, was the first crewed spacecraft to break free from Earth’s orbit, reach the moon, and return safely home.
Apollo 8: The Thrilling Story of the First Mission to the Moon will be available for purchase and signing by the author. Kluger is also the author of Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13, which became the basis for the Ron Howard film Apollo 13 (1995) starring Tom Hanks.
The event is free and open to the public. RSVP for updates; space is limited. Admission is first-come, first-served. To register, please visit http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/JeffreyKluger
