KICKS OFF SUMMER SEASON WITH NEW EXHIBITS AND
AUDIO TOURS AVAILABLE IN SEVEN LANGUAGES
To kick off the summer season, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan, will debut the new exhibit “Transporter FX,” bring back the improved “Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light” and launch new audio tours that are available in seven languages.
Transporter FX
Now “departing” from Pier 86, the Transporter FX flight simulator is like nothing you’ve ever experience before. Don the special polarized glasses and rock, pitch and jolt your way through six minutes of sensory overload as you feel the power of the blasting bass while wind and mist whip through the cabin. Tickets may be purchased at the Welcome Center or on Pier 86 for $6. Riders must be at least 42” tall.
“Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light”
Experience true heroism under fire as the multimedia experience “Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light” returns to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for the first time since 2006 when the museum closed to undergo a nearly two-year renovation.
“Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light” transports visitors back to November 25, 1944, when the USS Intrepid was struck by two kamikaze suicide planes. The exhibit includes a memorial wall that honors the 69 officers and crew members who gave their lives while serving aboard Intrepid.
A multimedia experience, audio, video, lighting controls, smoke and flame effects, projectors and five synchronized video screens comprise the exhibit. All systems combine to create an immersive, on-location environment experience that tells the history of the kamikaze attacks in a gripping and memorable way.
A segment of the video projection is available for viewing, downloading and distribution at http://www.sendspace.com/file/zdfapz . The video is courtesy of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Experiencing the exhibit is free with the price of admission to the museum. “Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light” runs every hour on the half hour.
