"LAUNCHING INTO HISTORY: PROJECT MERCURY"
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum presents the free Tour Guide Talk “Launching into History: Project Mercury” that will run weekends from September 14th – October 27th, from 1:00 PM – 1:15 PM & 4:00 PM – 4:15 PM aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue), Manhattan.
Project Mercury, the first human spaceflight program in the United States, was rife with excitement, challenges, danger and ultimately triumph as America sent its first astronauts into space. From the birth of NASA to designing a manned spacecraft to finding someone who would actually fly the machine, this Tour Guide Talk will lead visitors through the compelling history of the Mercury Program.
This Tour Guide Talk is open to the public and free with the price of admission to the museum.
