INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM HONORS FORMER
NEW YORK CITY MAYOR EDWARD I. KOCH BY FLYING
FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF
New York, NY [February 1, 2013] – The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum issued the following statement today on the passing of Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch:
“The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum joins all New Yorkers in mourning the passing of Edward I. Koch, the 105th Mayor of the City of New York. Nothing short of a legend, Ed Koch was a great friend of Intrepid, whose leadership and support was crucial in the establishment of our Museum in 1982, including his participation in our opening ceremonies at that time. We also pause to honor his service as a veteran of the Army's campaigns in Europe during World War II, where he earned two battle stars and helped dismantle the Nazi government after V-E day. We are the great beneficiaries of his contributions and commitment to our nation and our city. Intrepid's flags along Pier 86 have been lowered to half-staff on Friday in his memory.”
