SOYUZ TMA-6 SPACECRAFT TO BE CRANED ONTO

INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18

A Soyuz TMA-6 spacecraft will be craned onto the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:30 AM.  Media check-in begins at 7:00 AM.

The crane will pick up the seven-foot tall by seven-foot wide spacecraft, scarred by re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere after its voyage into space, from Pier 86 and crane it up to the Intrepid’s aircraft elevator. The capsule will be the latest addition to the Museum’s interactive displays relating to outer space and provide visitors the rare opportunity to view an original Russian spacecraft.

The capsule returned Greg Olsen, one of the few private citizens who have experienced space travel, back to Earth in October 2005 after he traveled to the International Space Station.  The Soyuz TMA-6 is on loan to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum by Olsen, who will be on site at the craning and available for interview.
