TRAVELING VIETNAM MEMORIAL TO BE DECONSTRUCTED
FOLLOWING CLOSING CEREMONY AT
INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20

The Dignity Memorial® Vietnam Wall, a traveling, three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C, will begin to be deconstructed at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan, on Sunday, November 20th following a brief ceremony that will take place from 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM.

Retired U.S. Army Major General Bill C. Branso and Calverton National Cemetery Director Michael Picerno will make remarks at the closing ceremony before the Memorial will be disassembled.

The Dignity Memorial® Vietnam Wall stands eight feet tall and stretches 240 feet long. It is inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died in combat or are currently listed as missing in Vietnam.  Since its creation in 1990 by the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, the traveling monument has been displayed in more than 200 cities across the country.  This was the first time that the Memorial had been displayed in Manhattan, where it was open to the public at Pier 86 since November 8.

The Dignity Memorial® Vietnam Wall is sponsored by these local funeral providers: Riverside Memorial Chapel, Frank E. Campbell The Funeral Chapel, Andrett Funeral Home, Chas. Peter Nagel Funeral Directors, Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home and Gramercy Park Memorial Chapel.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is proudly supported by Bank of America.
