Our Education Department is getting ready for an exciting summer of Camp Intrepid! We’re preparing science experiments, engineering projects, stargazing experiences and more for kids ages 5–13. Each week, our campers will participate in fun activities like these and go on daily explorations of our exhibits and historic spaces.
|
During our first week, June 15–19, campers will learn the Basics of Boot Camp, investigating the physical skills needed to be an Intrepid crew member. We’ll challenge them to work individually and in groups to complete obstacle courses and relay races, and we’ll use historic daily itineraries and other clues to piece together a crew member’s routine.
In July, campers will discover what it takes to be an inventor. We’ll take a look at technology invented by the military and NASA to overcome challenges, and then use everyday materials as well as 3D modeling and printing to design solutions to challenges of our own.
|
During our last week, August 17–21, campers will explore the history of space science in our exhibition HUBBLE@25 and our pop-up planetarium. They’ll learn how NASA identifies and categorizes galaxies, constellations, black holes and more before putting their skills to the test and comparing their findings to those of scientists.
Visit the Camp Intrepid web page for a full listing of weekly themes and for information on how to register. We hope to see you there!
