March 1, 2012 marks the beginning of Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s
2nd Annual Salute to Women.
Salute to Women, coinciding with Women’s History Month, is dedicated to celebrating women’s contributions while educating and inspiring our next generation of female leaders.
The month long Salute will highlight Intrepid Museum’s new temporary exhibit, Women in Aviation: World War II. This new exhibition will examine the wartime contributions of pioneering women and feature original artifacts including flight suits and gear, uniforms, pilot log books, archival materials and photographs. Vintage film footage will show women breaking records, winning air races, and training to serve their country.
Through hands-on weekend activities, guided tours and more, Intrepid’s salute to Women will showcase why science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) studies are so important to our country’s future.
