The Intrepid Family of Foundations deeply mourns the loss of the Honorable Jack Murtha, representative from Pennsylvania, outstanding Congressional leaders and long-time friend to the Armed Forces and to Intrepid. A former Marine who served in Korea and Vietnam, he was the first Vietnam veteran elected to Congress. He served in the House for more than 35 years and remained in the Marine Corps Reserve until 1990, retiring as a Colonel. As Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, his was a powerful voice on many issues affecting our men and women in uniform, veterans and their families. He was long a friend and supporter of Intrepid and our mission to honor all those who have served our nation. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife of 55 years Joyce, to their children Donna, Jack and Patrick, to his grandchildren and his entire family, and to all who knew this great American. |
