What’s Coming Up at the Intrepid Museum in 2016
Posted: 1/4/2016 12:00:00 AM

Happy New Year from the Intrepid Museum! This year promises to be full of excitement at the Museum, and we have several programs and exhibitions planned for 2016. Don’t forget that all U.S. veterans and U.S. active and retired military receive free admission to the Intrepid Museum year-round, thanks to the generosity of Bank of America!

Our annual Kids Week will take place February 15 to 20, during the New York City public school winter break. This year’s theme is Extreme Environments. Join us in discovering the wonders of the chilly polar ice caps, the deepest depths of the ocean, distant exoplanets and the fascinating places in between! Learn how NASA researches Earth's climates to understand our planet and prepare astronauts for travel to the moon, Mars and beyond. Meet real scientists and learn how robots are designed for space exploration. And get an up-close look at animals well-adapted for life in extreme conditions!

During Kids Week, children and families will enjoy eye-opening shows in our pop-up planetarium, dazzling science presentations and hands-on workshops.  Each day will feature special guests and award-winning children’s book authors, interactive displays and opportunities to learn about our amazing universe. We’ll update our website with more information and the full schedule soon, so keep checking back!

Beyond Kids Week, we offer plenty of regular activities for children and families, including family programs on select weekends throughout the winter. Starting in January, we’ll host family programs on Sundays, in addition to our regular Saturday events. Come by on January 16 or 17 or February 13, 14, 27 or 28 for fun programs that get the whole family in on the action! Check out the full schedule here.

Registration is NOW OPEN for Camp Intrepid in the winter and spring.  At Camp Intrepid, children engage in themed activities and projects related to aviation, navigation and technology, inventions, engineering, construction, life at sea and more. In the winter and spring, camp themes include Aviation Takes Flight and City at Sea! You can register for one day of camp, a few days or the entire week. It’s the perfect time to try Camp Intrepid, so bring a friend or look forward to making new ones!

On the exhibition front, HUBBLE@25 will close on January 10, while On the Line: Intrepid and the Vietnam War will be on display through Fall 2016. We will also start our Astronomy Night series back up in early 2016 and will host our regular events, including Fleet Week and the Space & Science Festival, later on in the year as well.

See you soon at the Intrepid Museum!
