NASA astronaut Michael Massimino, a Franklin Square, NY native, shared his outer worldly experiences with a group of more than 150 teenage Police Athletic League scholars and visitors to the Museum at a Youth Leadership Conference on Thursday in the Lutnick Theater location on the Hangar Deck.
Massimino, who recently returned from the Hubble telescope servicing mission and who is the first person to ever “tweet” from space, hosted the conference while he was in New York participating in NASA’s “Hometown Heroes” tour. He gave a presentation, including footage and slides from his trip to space, took questions and signed autographs for those in attendance.
The conference, which was also open to the public, gives high school students the opportunity to learn about leadership and character directly from members of their community through small group activities and exercises.
