Happy Teacher Appreciation Day! During the school year, the Intrepid Museum’s Education Department welcomes over 750 classes in grades K–12 for guided gallery programs and offers professional learning opportunities for teachers at the head of each class. By providing teachers with social studies and science content that is directly linked to the Museum’s collections and exhibits, our inquiry-based learning approach gives educators the chance to explore new materials and teaching methods in a fun museum environment. Teachers also have the opportunity to confer with colleagues from different disciplines and reflect on how the content and various learning approaches in a museum can be incorporated in their classrooms.
This summer, we will once again offer a free full-day Teacher Professional Development during the Intrepid Museum’s annual Space & Science Festival. This year, we will bring together art and science in exciting STEAM presentations. Save the date for Saturday, July 25, 2015, and check back soon for agendas and workshop topics.
We are proud to be able to work with so many talented teachers here at the Intrepid Museum. Keep up the great work, and best of luck in the 2015–2016 school year!
