On March 1st, in honor of Women’s History Month, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum launched a 31-day celebration: Salute to Women. Salute to Women honors the women who have served our nation – both in and out of military uniform – with a series of events designed to honor, educate and inspire the next generation of female leaders.
Salute to Women kicked off with the March 1st opening of new exhibit: Inspiration & Industry: American Women on the Home Front, an exhibition of WWI and WWII-era posters that showcases women’s roles in wartime efforts.
This Sunday, March 6th the celebration continues with Women in the Arts Week. Pilot and author, Tami Lewis Brown will be onboard for a special reading of Soar, Elinor!.
Soar, Elinor!, an illustrated biography of aviation pioneer, New Yorker and Amelia Earhart contemporary, recounts the life of Elinor Smith, who in 1928, at age 16, was the youngest person in history to earn her pilot’s license.
Soar, Elinor! will be available for purchase in the Museum Store and Ms. Brown will be available for book signings.
Each week Intrepid will continue to honor accomplishments by and educate young women in specific fields including:
