The Intrepid Museum will present its annual Memorial Day commemoration through a virtual ceremony that invites the public to join the Museum in honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Museum President Susan Marenoff-Zausner will host the commemoration, which will feature the National Anthem performed by Tony Award-winning actress, Stephanie J. Block, who joins the event through a partnership with Waterwell, a civic-minded theater company in New York City. The performance will be followed by remarks from Admiral Karl L. Schultz, 26th Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, and Stuart Gelband, President of the Intrepid Former Crewmembers Association. A ceremonial wreath will be laid in the Hudson River by Navy Commander Jay Yelon. Mr. Yelon was born in Brooklyn and is currently a trauma surgeon at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, Long Island.

The commemoration will conclude with the playing of Taps from the flight deck of Intrepid by Sgt Dennis Vanterpool, a bugler from the Marine Corps 6thCommunication Battalion, followed by a special performance of the National March by the United States Navy Band.

The Intrepid Museum’s virtual Memorial Day Ceremony is made possible thanks to leadership support from our Board of Trustees. Additional support is provided by Craig Newmark Philanthropies, Dr. Greg Olsen, Bill and Marguerite Nelson, Virginia Davies
and Willard Taylor
, Joseph and Suzanne Speicher and the USS Intrepid Former Crew Members Association.

Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard to Present Virtual
Fleet Week New York 2020
The U.S. Navy (USN), Marine Corps (USMC) and Coast Guard (USCG) are proud to present Virtual Fleet Week New York 2020, May 20-26, hosted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This is the first time the Navy has hosted Fleet Week in a virtual environment. The weeklong event is a new way for the residents of New York City and the surrounding tri-state area to continue to take part in the annual celebration despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Viewers are encouraged to check back each day as new content is added to the line-up, including live question-and-answer sessions, never-before-seen video tours of the guided-missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58) and three Coast Guard cutters, as well as an aerial tour of the Coast Guard Barque Eagle, a tall ship that is used to train Coast Guard cadets.
