Inspiration Academy Summer Institute

What: Inspiration Academy is a professional learning series for K–12 educators focused on the integration of inclusive approaches to STEM and history, supporting all learners and fostering both belonging in the classroom and joy in learning. The focus of the Inspiration Academy is on sustaining and engaging BIPOC teachers and/or teachers in majority BIPOC schools who are in their first five (5) years of the profession.

What: Inspiration Academy is a professional learning series for K–12 educators focused on the integration of inclusive approaches to STEM and history, supporting all learners and fostering both belonging in the classroom and joy in learning. The focus of the Inspiration Academy is on sustaining and engaging BIPOC teachers and/or teachers in majority BIPOC schools who are in their first five (5) years of the profession.

Participants in the Inspiration Academy Summer Institute, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, attend a five-day institute consisting of in-person sessions with scholars, museum professionals, and fellow teachers. Participants explore how to infuse historical and scientific thinking into their classroom with a focus on Next Generation Science Standards and parallels to the C3 Framework.

Inspiration Academy are eligible for a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the Summer Institute. 30 hours of CTLE credit is also awarded for this professional development program. 

This program is limited to 25 participants who will be chosen through an application process. Sessions will be held at the Intrepid Museum and other select NYC sites.

Professional Learning

The Museum offers a variety of opportunities and formats to refresh, get inspired, learn from experts and network with colleagues. As a New York State Education Department-approved Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) provider, the Intrepid Museum offers P-credit courses as part of the New York City Department of Education's After School Professional Development Program (ASPDP) throughout the year. These courses apply toward teachers' salary differential +30 requirement.
