Week of Activities Salutes Members of the Armed Forces
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will celebrate the 29th annual Fleet Week, taking place May 24–May 29, 2017, with a week of activities, themed events and live demonstrations that celebrate the armed forces. Fleet Week is America’s premier tribute and “thank you” to the men and women who serve in the armed forces. Fleet Week activities at the Intrepid Museum are proudly supported by Coca-Cola.
The following Fleet Week activities will be held at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and on Pier 86 (46 Street and 12 Avenue, Manhattan). Events on the pier are free and open to the public; events inside the Museum are free with Museum admission.
Retired and active U.S. military and U.S. veterans receive free Museum admission with proper I.D. Free admission is generously provided by Bank of America.
The Intrepid’s special exhibition Drones: Is the Sky the Limit, the first major museum exhibition featuring pilotless aircraft opening on May 10, will be accessible during Fleet Week with admission to the Museum.

Thursday, May 25
10:00am-2:00pm: The Research Vessel Neil Armstrong, docked at Pier 86, will be open for public tours.
6:00pm: The 26th Anniversary Salute to Freedom gala will honor The Honorable John F. Kelly, Secretary of Homeland Security, and Marc Holliday, Chief Executive Officer, and Andrew Mathias, President, of SL Green Realty Corp. Tickets are on sale now at www.intrepidmuseum.org/Salute.
The Museum is open from 10:00am-3:00pm.
Friday, May 26
10:00am-1:00pm: The Research Vessel Neil Armstrong, docked at Pier 86, will be open for public tours.
11:00am–4:00pm: Fleet Week-themed Tour Guide Talks and Education Demonstrations will take place on the hangar deck.
12:15pm-3:15pm: The Giant Leaps Planetarium Show will take place in the Museum’s Rotunda.
This show, which follows the story of space exploration, will take visitors on a journey from the edge of the atmosphere to the edge of the observable universe.
7:00pm - Join the Intrepid Museum as it kicks off its 8th annual Summer Movie Series with a FREE screening of Top Gun on the flight deck, introduced by NASA astronaut and former T-38 pilot Gregory C. Johnson! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets. Doors open at 7:00pm and the program will begin at sunset, weather permitting. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited. Food and beverages are available for purchase onsite. Alcohol is not permitted on Intrepid’s flight deck.
Museum is open from 10:00am–5:00pm.
Saturday, May 27
10:00am-6:00pm: Throughout the day, Pier 86 will host displays and hands-on activities from American Red Cross, Dina Parise Racing, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Coca-Cola SportsZone, FDNY Fire Safety Experience, Antique Military Vehicles from the Military Transport Association, South Street Seaport Museum, CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation, Veterans Artist Program, Veterans Vision Project, and Sea Scouts Division of the Boy Scouts of America. Live performances by the Voices of Service, American Military Spouses Choir, and Madison Rising: Veterans Rock Band will take place on the Pier 86 stage.
Intrepid Former Crewmembers will share stories throughout the Museum, live demonstrations will be presented by Intrepid Museum educators, and Fleet Week-themed Tour Guide Talks will take place on the hangar deck.
Noon: Pier 86 will transform into a stage for a Broadway Showcase featuring performances by the casts of Cats, Kinky Boots, The Great Comet, School of Rock, Ernest Shackleton Loves Me and Imbible: A Spirited History of Drinking. The showcase will be emceed by the cast of The Play That Goes Wrong.
12:15pm-3:15pm: The Giant Leaps Planetarium Show, which follows the story of space exploration, will take place in the Museum’s Rotunda.
2:00pm: Meet the Pilots with former NASA Astronaut Mike Massimino and Gregory C. “Ray J” Johnson, NASA astronaut, Captain, US Navy, Ret. a former pilot who has flown T-38s and logged more than 10,800 flying hours in 50 aircraft with over 500 carrier landings. The event will take place inside the Space Shuttle Pavilion.
2:00pm: The United States Coast Guard Silent Drill Team will perform a demonstration on the flight deck.
2:30pm: Jump back in time with Saved by the 90s, a medley of fun upbeat songs from the 90s on Pier 86.
7:30pm-1:00am: Join us for an epic Battle of the Big Bands and night of swing dancing on the flight deck of the historic aircraft carrier. Celebrate the music, dancing and style of the swing era with a spectacular lineup of over 90 performers, including three of New York City's best big bands, a barbershop quartet and a female vocal trio. There will be a vintage fashion show and contest, swing dance performances, a dance contest, free beginner swing dance lessons and more. VIP ticketholders will get an exclusive tour of the hangar deck and the chance to explore the Museum. Come “follow the fleet” in Navy-inspired outfits and vintage clothes. And bring your dancing shoes—there will be a 2,000-square-foot wood dance floor! Tickets are available for purchase at www.intrepidmuseum.org.
This special event is co-presented by Prohibition Productions and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. For ages 21+ only. Cash bar and snacks will be available for purchase.

Sunday, May 28
Throughout the day, Pier 86 will host displays and hands-on activities from American Red Cross, Minus 5 Ice Sculpting Experience, Dina Parise Racing, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Coca-Cola SportsZone, FDNY Fire Safety Experience, Antique Military Vehicles from the Military Transport Association, South Street Seaport Museum, CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation, Veterans Artist Program, Veterans Vision Project, and Sea Scouts Division of the Boy Scouts of America. A live performance by America's Sweethearts will take place on the Pier 86 stage.

Noon: Live performance by the cast of new Broadway musical Bandstand will take place on the Pier 86 stage. Bandstand, set in the swing-fueled nightclubs of 1945, is a truly American story of love, loss, triumph and the everyday men and women whose personal bravery defined a nation.

Monday, May 29—Memorial Day
11:00am: Honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces at the annual Memorial Day commemoration ceremony along with hundreds of veterans, representing wars and conflicts from WWII to the present, and their families. This annual ceremony will include the unfurling of a 100-foot American flag, the playing of Taps, a ceremonial wreath laying and a 3-volley rifle salute. The event is free and open to the public.
2:00pm: The United Stated Coast Guard Search and Rescue team will perform a demonstration on Pier 86.
Throughout the day, Pier 86 will host exciting displays and hands-on activities from New York Historical Society, Minus 5 Ice Sculpting Experience, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, FDNY Fire Safety Experience, Veterans Artist Program, Veterans Vision Project, Coca-Cola SportsZone, Dina Parise Racing, CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation, Brooklyn Fiber Art/Galileo Linens, and Sea Scouts Division of the Boy Scouts of America.
Live demonstrations will be presented by Intrepid Museum educators, and Fleet Week-themed Tour Guide Talks will take place on the hangar deck.

Directions by NYC Metro Bus:
Take cross-town buses west. M34 (34th Sts), M42 (42nd St.) or M-50 (49th St.) to 12th Ave. and Hudson River. Intrepid is a short walk north from the M34 and M42. The M50 drops off immediately in front of the Intrepid.
Directions by NYC Metro Subway:
Take the A, C, E, N, Q, R, S, 1, 2, 3 or 7 train to 42nd St., then walk or take the M-42 West Bus to Hudson River (12th Ave). Walk North to Intrepid.
Directions from Water:
Take New York Water Taxi to Pier 84 and walk a block north to the Intrepid Museum. Or from New Jersey take the New York Waterway to Midtown (38th Street) and walk north on 12th Ave to the museum.
