As Fleet Week 2011 comes to a close, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum recounts the celebration’s success!
This year, Intrepid Museum welcomed the Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, Army and Air Force to its Pier 86. The United States Armed Forces were on hand all week with interactive and awe-inspiring displays including interactive science fun, a fitness challenge, a rock wall, military working dogs and a search and rescue demonstration. Other exhibitors on our own Pier 86 included: Chevrolet, Coca-Cola, Tin Can Sailors and The American Red Cross.
From Friday through Sunday, Fleet Week’s Main Stage rocked with performances by the Air Force band Afterburner, the George Gee Swing Orchestra and The Jonathan Batiste Quintet. And visitors were treated to performances from some of Broadway’s top shows, including Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Wicked, Rain, a Tribute to the Beatles and more
Monday, of course, marked a day of commemoration and reflection. With our annual flight deck Memorial Day Ceremony and unfurling of a 100 foot American Flag, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum took pause to honor our country’s heroes, past and present.
