Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Lab and discover how physics and engineering can help to prepare for spaceflight!
NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) is a 6.2-million-gallon indoor pool designed to help simulate the weightlessness of space, here on Earth! Used primarily to train astronauts preparing for spacewalks, the NBL allows crews to rehearse complex activities and mission procedures around full-scale mockups of the International Space Station. Engineers and scientists also use the facility to test hardware and develop techniques for working in extreme environments. Join us LIVE from onsite at NBL for a behind-the-scenes tour during an actual training session for a rare deep dive into this one-of-a-kind underwater facility to discover how physics, engineering, and exploration are blended to prepare for spaceflight.
Live streamed via the Intrepid Museum’s Facebook, YouTube, and X, as well as NASASpaceflight’s YouTube and X, and Kerbal Space Academy’s Twitch.
Funded by: The Virtual Astronomy Live is supported through a NASA Cooperative Agreement awarded to the New York Space Grant Consortium.
The program is also supported, in part, by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
