Inspiration Academy: Decode the Past

-

For Teachers and Educators

About This Event

From 1943–1974, the former USS Intrepid served as a “city at sea” for over 50,000 men during World War II, the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Those serving onboard could go to the barber for a haircut, play basketball on an aircraft elevator and grab a bite to eat in the Mess Deck. However, the ship’s post office played an important role in continuing relationships back home by sending and receiving letters from loved ones.

Join the Intrepid Museum for a 90-minute virtual professional development session focused on understanding how letters sustained morale for crew on Intrepid. Hear from Curatorial Associate, Alison Burke, about life in the Post Office and the importance of letter writing. Explore the work of historians, librarians and archivists through a decoding exercise.

This program provides 1.5 CTLE credits. Registered participants will receive a program link and program information 1-2 days prior to the programming date. Virtual check-in will begin at 5:45pm EST.

Registration has reached the max capacity of 25 registered participants. To join the waitlist, please email School Programs at schoolprograms@intrepidmuseum.org.

The Intrepid Inspiration Academy has been made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
