Inspiration Academy: Proudly We Served

About This Event

Black sailors have served in the U.S. Navy since its inception, but could only become officers as recently as World War II. The first group of Black officers was later known as the “Golden Thirteen,” and future generations have followed in their footsteps after 1944. However, many Black officers have had to navigate the challenging racial politics of commanding white subordinates.

Join the Intrepid Museum for a 90-minute virtual professional development session focused on acknowledging the impact of Black Americans on American culture through the historical narratives of former USS Intrepid sailors and other military members.

This program provides 1.5 CTLE credits. Registered participants will receive a program link and program information 1-2 days prior to the programming date. Virtual check-in will begin at 5:45pm ET.

Registration will open approximately one month before the event. Space is limited. Registration ends Friday, February 6, at 3:00pm ET.

This virtual program is open to 25 registered participants who will each be eligible for a $75 stipend upon completion of the program.
