The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has recently launched its 6th Annual Hometown Heroes Contest.
The mission of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is to “honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.” Every summer, the Museum honors its Hometown Heroes – neighbors who go above and beyond to give back to their communities.
Hometown Heroes Day— Sunday, September 18th, 2011— will feature the presentation of awards to local residents who have performed outstanding community service in four categories:
I. Community Service Award: For someone who, on a volunteer basis, has performed outstanding service on behalf of the community in which he or she lives.
II. Mentor Award: For someone who has done an outstanding job mentoring/teaching/coaching youth in the community.
III. Youth Community Service Award: For the 17-year-old or younger who has made an outstanding contribution to the community through volunteerism or acts of kindness or bravery.
IV. Service Person Award: For any community service person (ie: Police, Firefighter, EMS, etc.) who has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty to help their community.
Between now and September 1st, Intrepid invites you to nominate your Hometown Hero by submitting an essay in 300 words or less for a chance to win well-deserved public recognition and some pretty cool prizes.
