About This Event

Don't miss a special Astronomy Night event, part of the Astro Live Series, at the Intrepid Museum on Friday, July 25!

Astronomy Nights are FREE and feature fun-filled and educational experiences for the whole family. This month, hear from Polaris Dawn astronauts Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon! As part of the groundbreaking Polaris Program, Polaris Dawn pushed the boundaries of private space exploration by achieving the first commercial spacewalk, the highest Earth orbit ever flown by humans, and the inaugural use of advanced SpaceX's Starlink laser-based communications. Gillis and Menon, both trailblazing engineers and mission specialists, will share insights from their record-breaking experience and what it meant to be on the front lines of a new era in human spaceflight.

The talk will take place in the Intrepid Museum's Lutnick Theater in Hangar 1. Livestreaming of the conversation will be available if you can't make it in person to the Intrepid Museum. View the live event on Facebook or YouTube.

Additionally, in connection with the Museum’s newest exhibition, Mysteries from the Deep: Exploring Underwater Archaeology, all of the movies this summer will feature stories about humankind’s exploration and fascination with the ocean. After the talk, enjoy views of the Hudson River and city skyline while screening the film The Abyss on the flight deck. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets to view the film outdoors, free of charge, on a huge inflatable screen on the flight deck. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited. Light concessions will be sold onsite, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is NOT permitted. Movie will begin at sunset.

* American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available for the talk. The movie will also have open captions.

Please note: While admission to the movie is free, Museum exhibitions will not be open during this event. Access will be limited to the flight deck and Hangar 1 for the Astronomy Night event.

Doors will open promptly at 6:00pm, Last entry to the Museum is at 8:30 pm (doors are subject to close earlier, entry is not guaranteed). All visitors must enter through the Welcome Center to receive a free ticket prior to entering the Museum.
