Oral History: Ray Stone

[0:01] Well, say I'm on the set. Okay. I have a headphone on and I'm connected to a plot board.

[0:13] Somebody plotting and I say, "All right, uh, we have a bogey coming in at the 55 miles bearing 010." Then I give him the next plot. He puts it down. They designate it. I check it for IFFF.

[0:34] It's foe, not friendly. No IFFF.

[0:38] They put the second plot down, which determines its cost and its speed.

[0:43] They give it a a raid designation. Say A, it's the first one. And then they keep plotting it. Then one of the fighted direction officers takes over the interception of that. Then we pick up another one coming in from 070 60 miles out. They do the same thing plotting that and another fighter direction officer if he's available will handle that raid. He will then notify the combat air patrol a plane up there a four group of four that are orbiting that they have something approaching on such and such a cross and they give him a vector for interception.

[1:32] He speaks to the pilot. The pilot then uh had on it and you see the two, if you're watching the plot board, you see the two courses coming to an illusion and that's when they shoot him down hopefully.
