New York, NY — In 2026, the United States marks its 250th anniversary, a historic milestone inviting reflection on the nation’s past, present and future. The Intrepid Museum will serve as New York City’s hub for this commemoration, presenting a multitude of public programs, ceremonies and immersive experiences that honor the people, events and innovations that have shaped the nation.
Steeped in history, Intrepid stands as a powerful symbol of American service and resilience. From 1943 to 1974, the aircraft carrier played pivotal roles in World War II, the Vietnam War, the Space Race and the Cold War. Today, the ship anchors the Museum, alongside a collection that includes Enterprise, NASA’s first space shuttle; USS Growler, a rare Cold War-era nuclear missile submarine open to the public; and a diverse array of historic aircraft that trace the evolution of military aviation.
As the nation prepares to mark its 250th birthday, programming at the Intrepid Museum will honor America’s story and Intrepid’s contributions to its history while inspiring the generations who will write its next chapter.
