New Menu Items to Coincide with 73rd Anniversary of Ship’s Commissioning
on August 16; Chef Larry Cooks with Intrepid Campers

NEW YORK  August 16, 2016 – Visitors from around the globe who come to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum can now enjoy delicious culinary offerings with classic New York flavor at Intrepid Marketplace.

A menu of freshly prepared pizzas, sandwiches, wraps, salads and soups, with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan selections, is now served at Intrepid Marketplace, located on the mess deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on the Hudson River in Manhattan.

Specially designed by Legends Hospitality and Legends at Intrepid Executive Chef Larry Montani, the new Intrepid Marketplace menu reflects authentic New York City food culture, with classic flavors, satisfying portions and convenient options for museum-goers. Chef Montani directs the culinary program on this National Historic Landmark and creates fine-food menus for the Museum’s major events, such as its Fleet Week celebration. He has extensive experience with major entertainment and sports destinations, including Yankee Stadium, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Staten Island Yankees Ballpark (Richmond County Bank Ballpark), Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Etihad Stadium (home of Manchester City FC) and Walt Disney World in Orlando.

“We created the menu to provide visitors at the Intrepid Museum with the best options, offering an authentic, excellent taste of New York,” said Chef Montani. “Each recipe is designed with a fast-and-fresh flavor balance that is delicious, satisfying and representative of our city’s food culture. It’s exciting to bring this layer of excellence to round out an already premier cultural experience at the Intrepid Museum.”

Highlights of the new Intrepid Marketplace menu:

·        Flatbread pizzas: Margarita and vegetable pesto
·        Classic New York hot sandwiches, made-to-order: Classic NY-style Reuben, chicken parm and sliced brisket
·        Ultra-farm-fresh sandwiches, wraps and salads:   Arugula salad and Mediterranean vegetable wrap
·        Convenient grab-and-go items:  Fresh-baked cookies with the Intrepid Museum logo
·        Hale and Hearty Soups:   Homestyle turkey chili and other selections from this NYC institution serving made-from-scratch soup

The Intrepid Marketplace menu includes made-from-scratch recipes. For example, Chef Montani’s classic NY-style Reuben includes made-from-scratch house sauerkraut with green cabbage, apple cider vinegar, pickling spice, caraway seed and juniper berries. The sauerkraut is also a featured topping for the Intrepid Marketplace’s signature all-beef hot dogs.

Another favorite is Chef Montani’s topping for the sliced brisket hot sandwich: crispy coleslaw with a special combination of cabbage, creamy mayo and apple cider vinegar, with just the right hint of sweetness in the seasoning.

The new Intrepid Marketplace menu will be showcased at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 16, coinciding with Intrepid’s 73rd Commissioning Anniversary Celebration. The celebration will feature a tribute to former Intrepid crew members for their service to the United States, a cake-cutting by former crew members and the first Cooking with Chef Larry, a series of classes that will be offered in the Intrepid Marketplace kitchen. In this kickoff class, kids participating in the Museum’s Camp Intrepid will bake pizzas and healthy snacks with Chef Montani.
