Intrepid Museum @Home: Mid-Winter Break Program Theme: Aviation Adventure Explorer Pack
Take a staycation and explore the Intrepid Museum during Mid-Winter Break with an Intrepid @Home Aviation Adventure Explorer Pack. A mix of Museum Educator led and screen-free activities that will connect your kids with others who are wild about all things aircraft! Break open your Explorer Pack and find a variety of materials to create fun, low-tech projects that will get kids thinking outside the box, creating and learning about how aircraft fly. Ages 7-12. Each of the three days involves:

  • Virtual Tours of Intrepid Museum with a Museum Educator. Sessions will be recorded and made available
    for the week in case you would like to participate on a different day.
  • Body Movement
  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Screen Free Creativity

In each Explorer Pack you will find:

  • Welcome Letter and Instruction Packet
  • Materials for our projects 
  • Three activities facilitated by Museum Educator. Sessions will be recorded and made available for
    the week in case you would like to participate on a different day.
  • Three activities for additional exploration of theme
  • Intrepid Museum Swag! 

Format:

  • 90 minutes live, group instruction includes icebreakers, Museum tour, project intros
  • Afternoon independent time to work on projects
  • 60 minutes at end of day to show off independent projects, discussion of concepts

  • Monday, February 15 - 9:30-11:00 AM & 3:00-4:00 PM
  • Wednesday, February 17- 9:30-11:00 AM & 3:00-4:00 PM
  • Friday, February 19 -  9:30-11:00 AM & 3:00-4:00 PM

Cost:

  • $75 per child (10% discount for multiple children and Museum members)

Intrepid 101: In the Seas, in the Skies Tour now available Learn about the history of Intrepid from 1943 to 1974 and beyond. Explore the hangar deck, where aircraft were maintained and stored, and the flight deck, where thousands of aircraft were launched, and hear stories from the ship’s history. Space shuttle pavilion also included. Recommended for ages 10+

Visitor safety: This tour requires long periods of walking and standing. Lightweight, portable stools are available upon request. This tour is wheelchair accessible.

1 hour tour which includes the ship and shuttle. $225 for up to 15 people. Does not include admission. Options for students studying at home.
Private Group Tour to be available during museum operating hours of Wednesday – Sunday 10:00am – 5:00pm with last Private Group Tour admission at 4:00pm.
Group has to consist of a singular family or group unit (i.e., they are all arriving at museum together as a group; group is not a combination of multiple groups/individuals).

Private Online School Programs now available Museum educators will tailor the program to the schedule requirements of individual classes as needed during school closures. Private classes allow for flexibility in date and time choice for teachers scheduling virtual learning options for students studying at home. Please complete the Education Program Request Form and a member of our Group Sales team will assist your reservation. $75 fee applies.


Virtual Trivia TournamentThe Intrepid Museum can now host your very own Virtual Trivia Tournament live online! Test your knowledge of sea, air and space as related to the aircraft carrier Intrepid in a private online environment with your family and friends in this fun, interactive experience for all ages. Whether you’re an expert or a novice, you’ll enjoy expanding your knowledge as you virtually explore our exhibits, and you might just walk away with bragging rights as the winner of your Virtual Trivia Tournament! A minimum of 8 participants is required and a $7.50 per person registration fee applies.


VIRTUAL OPERATION SLUMBERHave Intrepid host your backyard camp out! Operation Slumber allows you to discover what life is like aboard the Intrepid from the comfort of your own home – camp style! Enjoy hands-on activities, interactive tours of the ship and fun conversations with Museum experts. VIRTUAL BIRTHDAY PARTIESCelebrate your child’s next birthday party at home with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum! Our online celebrations are 45 minutes. An educator will take your group on a virtual tour of the Intrepid Museum, where children will learn about the history of the ship and the crew who served from 1943-1974. All programs are adjusted to be age appropriate and will vary according to the age of the group. INTREPID MUSEUM GROUP DROP-OFF, PICK-UP AND BUS PARKING
Passenger drop-off and pick-up must be made inside the parking lot on the northbound side of 12th Avenue, between 45th and 46th streets across from the Museum. The entrance to the lot is on 12th Avenue (West Side Highway). Please use this lot for drop-off, pick-up, and if needed, parking your bus or motor coach.

Please note that the Department of Transportation DOES NOT PERMIT buses and motor coaches to drop-off or pick-up passengers on the southbound side of 12th Avenue in front of the Museum.
