The Concorde Experience is now open to the public. Beginning at 11:00am daily and offered every 30 minutes, the 20-minute tour will take visitors inside Concorde to learn about this technological marvel. Ages 5 and up. Tickets will be available online and on-site at the Box Office and Information Desk. Adult/Child $9, Members $5.

Concorde was the most specialized aircraft ever used for commercial passenger service. The aircraft was a collaboration between Great Britain and France to produce a transatlantic supersonic airliner. The name Concorde, which means harmony or union, reflects the cooperation of the two nations on the groundbreaking project.

No other aircraft met Concorde’s specifications for altitude and speed. From 1976 to 2003, Concorde flew passengers across the Atlantic Ocean at speeds reaching Mach 2.04—twice the speed of sound. At this speed, Concorde made the trans-Atlantic flight from New York to London in about three hours—less than half the time of conventional jetliners, even to this day.

Concorde was the benchmark of luxury airline service. Passengers enjoyed a private lounge before their flights, which included a stocked wine cellar and direct access to the aircraft for boarding. Inflight amenities such as gourmet food, wine and champagne were also available.

After Concorde’s service ended in 2003, the various airplanes were distributed to museums across the globe. Today, 18 remain around the world.  The Concorde Alpha Delta G-BOAD arrived at the Intrepid Museum in January 2004. This very aircraft set a world speed record for passenger airlines on February 7, 1996, flying from New York to London in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 59 seconds. The record still stands today.

Visitors can now explore the Concorde on display in the Intrepid Museum’s Pier 86. Guided tours offer visitors the rare opportunity to enjoy the comfort of Concorde’s cabin and get an up-close look inside its sophisticated flight deck.

Throughout 2022, the Intrepid Museum will highlight key milestones in the Museum’s history to celebrate our remarkable 40-year journey. The year-long commemoration will also feature new exhibits, a preview of future restoration of historic spaces on Intrepid, and special in-person and virtual public and educational programming. While celebrating its past and present, the Museum will also take an aspirational look forward to its future.
