On Sunday, March 13 visitors to the Intrepid laced up their sneakers and joined some of New York’s top fitness and health experts for a day filled with interactive fitness demonstrations, activities and educational programs highlighting the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
Among other activities, guests were able to test their breast cancer IQ and spin the Komen Greater NYC Wheel of Knowledge.
Fitness classes for the day included yoga, pilates, core fusion and zumba. A series of mini-seminars on topics such as children’s nutrition, healthy eating, fitness and wellness, and parenting also took place throughout the day.
The weekend concluded with a Sunset Yoga experience in the Great Hall of the Intrepid Museum.
In a partnership between the Intrepid and New York Yoga, a yoga studio on the Upper East Side, approximately 60 yoga enthusiasts from all around the City practiced a 75 minute Vinyasa class with noted New York Yoga Instructor Jenny Gamello.
Gazing through breathtaking floor to ceiling windows over the rippling water, the yogis enjoyed an awe-inspiring 75 minutes of yoga practice as the sun set over the Hudson River.
100% of the proceeds from the event went to the wonderful work of YogaBear, a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to make yoga available to cancer patients and survivors through partnerships with hospital and yoga studios.
The event was part of Intrepid’s 31-day “Salute to Women” celebration during Women’s History Month. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is honoring women who have served our nation – both in military uniform and out – with a series of events designed to honor, educate and inspire the next generation of female leaders.
Health and Fitness Day was sponsored by the Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
