Saturday was a special night at the Intrepid as almost one million spectators gathered along the Hudson River to watch the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show that featured the Intrepid as host for the NBC National Broadcast. As a part of that celebration, the Intrepid would like to acknowledge our brave troops and their families that are in harms way defending our freedoms around the world.
The 60-minute NBC program, which was broadcast live from Intrepid’s Flight Deck, featured performances by Jewel, Rob Thomas and the cast of the Broadway hit West Side Story.
American River, which was the theme of the 33rd annual Macy's Fireworks, gave millions of viewers nationwide America's most spectacular showcase of brilliant colors, jawdropping effects and thunderous sound. The Intrepid was at the center of it all as over 44,000 fireworks lit up the sky and wowed those in attendance and watching around the country.
The event also kicked off the 400th anniversary of the exploration of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson.
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and Intrepid Family of Foundations would like to thank NBC and Macy’s for allowing us to be a part of this historic celebration.
